BBT Peer Learning Programme (study days) January- June 2015

The BBT Programme Director is Mary-Rose Shears  who is both a GP trainer working in Seaford and an Associate Dean with responsibility for GP training throughout East Sussex. If trainees have any queries or concerns about their placements or the integration of major and minor specialties, they should contact Mary-Rose ( in the first instance.

BBT Peer Learning Programme

The BBT Peer Learning Programme is a bi-monthly teaching programme for all BBT trainees. It is a good opportunity for BBT trainees to come together as a group for discussion, sharing of learning on the BBT programme and peer support. All BBT trainees are expected to attend all days.

BBT Administrators

The BBT administrators located in each acute trust’s postgraduate centre, have been supporting the programme.  As the acute trust is the trainee's employer for the duration of the BBT programme, the BBT administrator has an overview of the trainee placements.  The placements are organised to ensure trainees rotate through the 4 specialities as either a major or minor speciality in their first year.  The BBT administrator will be involved in the arrangements for the trainees experiencing their minor specialty as a block in December and April.

Study Leave

The BBT programme supports the educational opportunities available to BBT trainees by providing the BBT peer learning programme and attendance at the relevant speciality training associated with each of the posts. Trainees must follow the Trust and HEKSS processes to apply for Study Leave approval and reimbursement of the study leave funding will be claimed via the employing Trust.

Speciality training days

Trainees are encouraged to undertake the educational programme of the specialty they are in.

PLEAT Days like GPVTS are part of that specialty training so if the trainee doing Paediatrics has the opportunity to attend PLEAT and ensures they have booked the study leave for it (as these are regional days) they should attend.  In BBT2, when trainees have selected their exit speciality, they will be particularly encouraged to participate in the regional days for their exit speciality.  Trainees should identify the dates of the training days and book themselves in via the relevant website:
